We weighed in on this 56 XK140 on EBay, and now we're wondering what we got, and if we should proceed.
(see http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-Jaguar-XK-/302426340039?ul_noapp=true&nma=true&si=hs%252BxQbGw7DyINo2dEtgyq%252FxKJcU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 )

The seller's comments in his ad are: "BEAUTIFUL 1956 XK140. Came originally from the factory with the 4 speed Laycock de Normanville function, as well the "Special Equipment" designation, this car has been meticulously maintained its whole life. Was a former Black Plate showcar from California, Can include Extra ENGINE+ TRANSMISSION for $2995 EXTRA"

The words in the ad describing the car do not seem to be reflected in the pictures of the car -- such as "meticulously maintained" and "showcar".

We still have to get a better history, but would appreciate any advice, questions, thoughts, etc. from the Jag owner crowd.
Does anyone recognize this car?
Would it be worth the extra $3K for a non-matching, non-original engine and trans that the seller is offering?

Thanks! This is either the beginning of a long journey, or a bid retraction if the "former showcar" description are seen as misleading.

I agree that some of the written description does not seem to align with this car and the engine video is of a 150 body in progress ??? not this car and not anything to do with engine/tranny. The written material does not say anything about the actual engine or transmission, but the notes about the extra one says that it can be placed into the engine bay....so the car has no engine?? Also ,, what is the story with the pedal configuration....looks as if someone had been anticipating it being an automatic? Eyes wide open on this.

Yep, thanks.
Saw that pedal configuration and had the same questions.
Nope, no engine -- but one from "the donor car" for about $3K. Picture of it shows a couple broken head bolts.
