This car goes into failsafe mode when it rains or goes to the carwash. It runs but disables everything and limps along? I wonder if there is a sensor are a place where water is leaking, I suspect it might be below the cowling on the pass side where there is electronics?

Any suggestions on getting more power with minor mods?

I had the same problem, started with overheating, it was from a jobber thermostat, Jag one is very expensive but works.
Anyway any kind of moisture would enter the vents and run along the top of the valve cover to the back and enter the plug holes under the cover through the hole where the wires to enter, little silicone fixed that.
take off the cover blow the plugs out,
pull off the battery cable for a few mins to clear all, hook back up, reset windows and good to go.
