Happy New year to you all

I have recently purchased this engine its off a 1969 series 1 XJ6 i believe Engine number 7L 42988 S

Can anyone tell me why the S is at the end of the number?

And can I change the 2 Stromberg carbs to a set of Triple SUs?

If I can does anyone have a Triple SU set up for sale?
Thank you

Alan

Are you sure it is an S and not an 8?

A mk10 manifold and triple carb setup will work

From my understanding of jaguar’s engine no’s was that the first two defined the car model the engine was fitted to. The prefix 7E was 4.2 liter E-Type series 1 and 1.5s. 7L was allocated to 2.8 and 4.2 XJ6’s. A letter at the end specified the compression ratio. I suspect S stand for standard CR.
I would also suspect that when the engine was changed the original carbs and manifolds were changed over plus of course Jaguars made many running changes during the 1.5 model year so there is definitive installation.
Good luck
